Angelica sinensis
aka Dong Quai

Aquarius is opposite Leo (the sun) who rules the heart in medical astrology. The Sun is the most vital energy--meaning the cardiovascular system naturally circulates the whole body (however in excess, Leo can deal with high blood pressure).
≈
As Aquarius is opposite, it can struggle to circulate it's blood.. it also is a sign that is constantly in it's head thinking about how to fix society.. so the energy it does have is focussed up to their noggin. As blood goes hand in hand with vitality, it's only natural that Aquarius struggle to create proper blood flow--resulting in low iron levels and circulatory issues. Most heavy Aquarius placements deal with cold and dry skin resulting (partially) from improper blood flow to bring oxygen to the extremities.
≈
Sometimes this can result in unpredictable menstrual cycles, light flow, heart palpitations, and anxiety. Because of their inability to hold onto sodium in the body, they can also deal with low blood pressure.
≈
Angelica sinensis is an ancient herb used in traditional chinese medicine for building the blood. It's high in iron and has a warming/moistening effect in the body. It helps to improve blood flow--helping with circulation to the extremities, increasing menstrual flow (helping with stagnant cycles), regulates menstrual cycles, and so much more. Where as Leo I would suggest cooling herbs that lower blood pressure and dispel heat, Aquarius I opt for warming and moistening herbs that increase circulation and blood flow.

Aquarius is known to hold tension in the body.. they hold onto the worlds emotions, but since they aren't an emotional sign, they don't know how to deal with them. This can cause constrictive states that result in a tendency to constipation. Dong Quai is an anti-spasmodic and gentle relaxant--helping to relax tension in the body. It also has gentle laxative effects helping to release toxins (physically + emotionally) from the body.
≈
Even if you aren't Aquarius, Dong Quai is a great choice if you are dealing with any of the issues mentioned above!

Stay tuned for next month where I'll highlight a Piscean herb!
