Astragalus potentiates the effects of IL2 (Interleukin 2, therefore stimulates cell mediated T helper cell immunity). Theoretical interaction with acyclovir (HSV 1 medication) based on similar mechanisms, therefore it may be shown that co-administration could be beneficial, however, evidence is lacking.
May be incompatible with immunosuppressive drugs (ie. cyclosporine, azathioprine and methotrexate).
